DraftLogic Inc produces building information models and the construction drawings those models are required to issue. Architectural BIM, structural BIM, floor plans, sections, elevations, and automated sheet production are one coordinated package — not a modeling task handed off to a separate drafting queue.

Building information modeling

Architectural and structural BIM

The model is the source. Walls, slabs, windows, partitions, stairs, columns, beams, and bracing are authored in BIM so construction drawings can be cut from live views rather than redrawn as detached CAD.

Building envelope, floors, and interior partitions

Architectural BIM is the 3D building model used for floor plans and elevations. The model carries exterior walls, floor slabs, curtain-wall windows, interior partitions, and stairs so a plan view and an elevation view read as the same building.

Columns, beams, slabs, and bracing

Structural BIM is authored as a framing model: columns, beams, floor slabs, and bracing. The framing model is the source for structural plan views and for coordinating the architectural floor plate to the load-bearing frame.

Modeling rule

If it will appear on a construction drawing, it is modeled.

DraftLogic Inc does not maintain a decorative 3D massing that is redrawn later as 2D. The architectural model and the structural framing model are built so plan, section, and elevation views can be placed on sheets. Window openings in the model become window openings on the elevation. Partition layouts in the model become partition layouts on the floor plan.

Where architectural and structural models occupy the same building, levels, grids, and slab edges are held in common so a floor plan cut from architecture and a framing plan cut from structure land on the same grid.

Construction drawings

Floor plans, sections, and elevations

Construction drawings are the plotted sheets contractors use: overall floor plans with dimensions and title blocks, plus building elevations and a building section through the floors.

Plan sheets for the building

Floor-plan sheets show walls, doors, room outlines, dimensions, and a title block. Plans are cut from the architectural BIM, not traced as a separate drawing. Multiple plan sheets are issued together as part of the construction drawing set.

Facade elevations and a cut-through section

Elevation sheets show the building facades. The section sheet cuts through the floors so level-to-level relationships are readable. Both are produced from the same BIM used for the floor plans, so window lines, floor levels, and the building outline match the plan set.

Generate the sheet series from the model

Drawing automation places views from the BIM onto a numbered sheet series — floor plans, elevations, and a building section — then issues the set as plotted pages with title blocks.

From the 3D building information model, DraftLogic Inc produces a drawing-sheet grid: floor-plan sheets by level, elevation sheets by facade, and a building-section sheet. Sheet names and numbers are assigned as the views are placed (plan sheets, elevation sheets, section sheet) so the set can be issued without redrawing each page by hand.

The floor plan is a view of the model

Coordination means the floor-plan drawing on the sheet is a view of the BIM, not a second drawing. Walls, rooms, stairs, and grids on the plan match the 3D building model. Changes in the model update the plan view before the sheet is re-issued.

The automated series is issued as a plotted drawing set. The cover of the stack is a floor-plan sheet with a title block carrying project, sheet number, scale, date, and revision. Subsequent sheets in the stack are the remaining plans, elevations, and section produced from the same model.

Production method

Four steps from model to issued sheets

Work is sequential and named. Each step has a visible product: a BIM, a view, a sheet grid, or a plotted set. There is no parallel “pretty model” track that never becomes a drawing.

01 — Author

Build the BIM

Architectural walls, slabs, windows, partitions, and stairs are modeled. Structural columns, beams, slabs, and bracing are modeled on the same levels and grids.

02 — Cut

Place drawing views

Floor-plan views, elevation views, and a building-section view are cut from the model. These views are the drawings — not a separate CAD file.

03 — Automate

Populate the sheet series

Views are placed onto numbered sheets: plans by level, elevations by facade, section through the building. Title blocks receive sheet number, scale, date, and revision.

04 — Issue

Plot the drawing set

Sheets are checked against the model, then issued as a stacked large-format set. A model change is followed by a sheet re-issue, not by patching 2D linework.

What is not in this practice

DraftLogic Inc does not sell construction labor, steel erection, or field welding. The practice is BIM modeling and construction drawing design automation. Site construction, procurement of building materials, and software-license resale are outside the drawing set.

The Ojai office issues models and sheets. Buyers remain the architect, engineer, or contractor of record for permits and field work. DraftLogic Inc’s product is the coordinated BIM and the automated construction drawings taken from it.
